Sad to say...

Jessicakes is only taking limited orders this year. I have taken a full-time job and the work load can't balance cake decorating too. I'll let you know when I begin to take orders again. Thanks for all your support!

It's a Graduation Celebration...of cakes!

I was very lucky this past May/June to make some really fun and unique graduation cakes. Each one had their own character based on the graduate.
This manly Texas Tech cake was for a Boyd Graduate who is attending Tech in the fall. I love the argyle type pattern on the sides and I think logo turned out pretty sweet as well!

Now this is Emily. I've known Emily since she was around 8 or 9 years old and now she's an MHS graduate *sniff*. I was thrilled when she asked me to make her cake and cupcakes. She wanted something fun and unique, and with a little Emily on the top of the cake I think we did our job. Plus it's sparkly :)

This is Emma, another MHS graduate...she's hilarious. Her cake was just like her, colorful and fun! The mortar board on top was a challenge, but turned out cute!

This last cake was a joint graduation cake for some Boyd graduates. You can't see it in this picture, but around the sides there are the girls' names and a symbol/image of their school next year. The girls love it! I think it turned out so cute!

Oh Summer....

I feel that I get on a good blogging roll and then I get off again. This time I blame summer! The truth is, I know you are not really on this blog to read my funny anecdotes or comment on my witty writing style. You are here to see some cakes! So let's get to it! I've got a cake update, but I won't overload you with everything I've been up to, instead let's do a brief cake catch-up!
This cake above was really special to do and for a very special person in my life. My high school choir teacher, Mr. Steve Garms retired this year and I was able to make his retirement cake. I love, love how it turned out and I know he loved it as well. Unfortunately we didn't get to go to the party, but I did get to send him this cake!
Okay, don't be fooled, these are NOT the same Beatles cupcakes I made before, but they are the same design. This time was for a 23 year old's birthday. The customers loved it so much they hated to eat them, so 5 of them split one cupcake to save the others...

This next cake was really cute, but unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the little baseball smash cake that went with it! This was the field that matched it and we used brown sugar to make the sand detail on the cake.

Okay, so that is a BRIEF cake catch-up. Hopefully soon I'll get the 4 graduation cakes I did up here! Have a delicious day!

Jack vs. Wild

Who doesn't love a little adventure? Well this cake is full of it! Especially for a 13 year old boy! Camping out, under the stars, hiking, fishing, and more come with this cake!
This was so fun to make because I had complete creative control. The customer simply asked for a chocolate camping cake...and she LOVED it! Inside was chocolate on chocolate and the outside an adventure for the eyes!
Jack's dad said his favorite part was the 3-D fire and I have to agree, it really just made the cake come alive.
My favorite part of cake decorating is the sculpting of fondant. I love creating, molding, and transforming fondant into something recognizable and even realistic. This cake was definitely all boy and so fun to make!

Birds & baby

I just love things that are precious. I love MAKING things that are so stinkin' cute, you can't help, but be obsessed with them. That's why I love this cake and cupcakes so much, they are adorable. You can't look at them without thinking, "awww, cute!". Trust me, I've tried.
The cake and cupcakes were for a "bird" themed baby shower. I love the idea! The cupcakes were vanilla with vanilla, while the cake was vanilla with yummy strawberry buttercream.

Ah! They are so cute!
The customer, Shara Johnson also does photography, so she got some awesome shots of them on display!
If you are interested in using her photo skills, let me know and I'll send you her info! She did a great job with these babies!

Butterflies & Baby

This cake is so cute i can hardly stand it. Seven year old me, would have loved this cake. Heck, 24 year old me, loves it! This was a baby shower cake, but I think it could transcend to little girl birthday for sure!
The butterflies were all based around the new baby's bedroom design. I just made everything pink & purple per the customer's request. I think it is so pretty and cute, and it was also delicious with a classic mix of chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. Yummy!
Here is what the customer shared with me on facebook about this cake,
"The butterfly baby shower cake was a huge hit. Everyone LOVED it! Thank you!"-Nikki B.

I'll take a compliment like that any day!

Ra-Ra-Rangers Cake!

Totally forgot I had this cake saved as a draft! Ah! Hate when I do that. At least  I found it to show you all! This was a super sweet anniversary cake and perfect for the current baseball season!
I love, loved how this cake turned out and have a feeling others might request a similar one! Maybe I should make a Mavs cake to help them win the playoffs...though I don't know if this Rangers cake has brought about any luck to them....
