Two is Always Better than One

Today I have two cakes to present to you. I had some difficulty with both cakes due to sticky fondant and poor piping abilities. The first cake, a cute giraffe print with a purple bow (all fondant--made with a devil's food cake) was for my brother's girlfriend, Alyssa. It was her 18th birthday. The second aggie cake was for my husband's sister, Meghan who was turning 20. We came back from vacation late Friday night and heard she was in town for the weekend. I couldn't just let her skirt by without a cake, so amidst the laundry and house cleaning on Saturday I baked and decorated her cake. The piping got a little better, but that fondant was so hard to color and it dried out quick!

Overall, I was content with how they turned out. Hopefully my skills will keep getting better!

Oh Sweet Cupcakes!

Recently we had an event at church that required a sweet treat...originally I thought cupcakes & cake, but due to lack of time I chose just the cupcakes. I made a recipe I found on allrecipes.com that was cake mix and brownie mix used together to create brownie cupcakes! They were delicious...but I couldn't stop there. I bought "whipped" icing from the store as well as pink & green sprinkles. Yet, they still needed to be cuter. I decided to take the rest of the fondant I had from my firefighter cake and die it light green and pink. Then I rolled it out and cut three separate sizes of fondant flowers. With a tad bit of piping gel to help it stick...this is the finished product.

Hopefully I can get a couple of other pictures, but you can see how adorable they turned out. The girls at the event loved them!!
