Fairy Princess Cookie Cake

My niece's 5th birthday was this past weekend and I was able to make her a cake....a cookie cake. Now this was no ordinary cookie cake. It had to be the scenery for a product of her baking themed birthday party. They decided to make little muffin cottages!

Here is the cookie cake without the cottages:

Those were some closeups as well. Here is the cake with the little bakers finished products:

It turned out pretty cute and the adorable birthday girl loved it!!

Engagement!

Recently my dear friend got engaged! Not only did I get to bake a little something sweet, I also got to be in on the whole surprise plan, which was loads of fun!

A few months ago I bought an engagement ring cookie cutter and was dying to use it. When I finally got the chance, I decided on using fondant to cover the cookies. The results, very tasty and very fun!

Birthday Cake for a Wonderful Mom!

My wonderful mother's birthday was this past Saturday, so I attempted to make her the prettiest cake I have ever made. I think I succeeded! It is a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting with fresh strawberries. I wanted to make fondant roses and decided to coat everything with petal dust to give it a pretty sheen. My mom loved it! She said it was the prettiest cake she's ever had and the best tasting. I also cooked dinner that night for her, but baking is definitely my strong suit!

Kate's Cake!

So this is the cake I've been waiting to do for over a month. I sat down with Kate and her mom to go over the planning and this past week I actually got to make her cake! The bottom tier was an 8x8 marble with vanilla frosting filling, the top 6in round was chocolate with vanilla frosting. I placed two pictures of this cake, just because it had a ton of details and was such a blast to make. I especially love the swimsuit out of gum paste (I used edible markers to draw with) and my tiny sunglasses (I had a pin that looked just like that as a kid). The shells were made out of chocolate and the sand simple brown sugar (if refrigerated it stays stiff, so it doesn't crumble everywhere).  I have a feeling this cake will spur on other customers. I continually day dream about my own bakery and know exactly what it would be like! Let's just hope JessiCakes will really take shape!

Batman & Bananas

Well a blog update is waaaayyyy past due, so here we go. This week I had a batman cake ordered for a 26th birthday. It is a chocolate cake with peanut butter filling....It looked delicious. The covered with yellow and black fondant--batman would have been envious himself. I even found a batman font online to make the letters.
And on the back I made a Gotham City of Fondant with the dark knight protecting the city on the rooftops. I think the client really loved it, haven't heard what the birthday boy thought though...

So, I've been trying to make these cupcakes FOREVER. I bought bananas and waited for them to get super ripe...only for the first time for them to go to waste. Finally, last night (though i had way too many other things to do), I made them and they turned out amazing. My mom had this fantastic banana muffin recipe and I figured with a little tweaking, it could be a delicious and i was right! I made a cream cheese frosting to go with it and sprinkled it with cinnamon sugar. I took them up to work to see what the people thought. They were not out there one hour and my dish was empty. Hopefully word will spread and I can get some more business!
