It’s bird, it’s a plane, it’s a plane cake!

Luckily it’s not a plain cake, instead it’s a super cute baby shower cake I made with a plane on top!  The baby’s room is airplane themed so we were able to incorporate the plane into the design.

This cake is yummy red velvet with cream cheese frosting. I wanted to keep the design simple, focusing on the large plane and using the clouds around the base to accent it. I really loved how it turned out!

Paintball Cupcakes

Last week I had the opportunity to make paintball cupcakes for the family I nanny for. They were a mix of vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting.
The "paint ball splatter" was royal icing flicked all over the cupcakes. The paintballs and masks are made out of fondant.

40 and Fabulous!

I’ve made an 80th birthday cake, I’ve made a 21st, and many other birthday cakes, but this week I made my first 40th birthday cake. In fact it was a “40 & Fabulous” birthday cake. Girly, yet sophisticated. Mod, but stylish.

I think it was a great balance of fun and age appropriate. And inside? Classic vanilla! The birthday girl and family loved it (especially her two daughters—they are already planning to be “Jessicaked” for their birthdays!)

Groom's Cake

Better late than never, hey, it’s Monday AND after Halloween, you’ve got to cut me a little break right?

Today’s cake feature is a Groom’s Cake that I made last week for a dear friend’s mom. She wanted something chocolate and this sure was chocolate—both cake and frosting. I used fondant under the monogram and piped all the detail with more chocolate frosting.

I heard from the daughter of the bride that it was a hit!
